Welcome!
In a diverse metropolis like New York City, psychotherapy is offered in many forms by a variety of mental health practitioners. The skill level of the therapist, as well as the specific treatment approach used, influences the effectiveness and ultimate outcome of the treatment. Unlike many therapists, I take into account a broad perspective of each person who comes for treatment. This orientation is primarily due to the psychotherapy I utilize, known as "The Masterson Approach," which offers both shorter and longer term treatment options. The approach, created and developed over the past almost fifty years by James F. Masterson, MD, integrates theories of development, attachment, object relations, and the psychology of the self with findings from neuro-biological brain research. In accordance with Dr. Masterson’s teachings, my work also greatly considers the character of each client. Consequently, my therapy is informed and tailored to each individual’s unique personality and struggles. The impact of treatment is first seen in the behavioral changes of individuals who in the past have done things to sabotage themselves. Gaining awareness of how behaviors and feelings are linked to underlying issues paves the way to "work through" those very issues. My work provides a setting for real change to occur in your inside world where your thoughts, feelings and memories exist. Clearing through old hurt and reworking your relationship with yourself allows for your true self to come forward and thrive.
People come to therapy for different reasons. At times, we may experience fulfillment and lead relatively happy lives. Still, there can be a need or desire to work through the old feelings, thoughts, conflicts, losses or patterns of behavior that continue to undermine our current lives and relationships.
Alternatively, we could be living in states of "stuckness," numbness, unhappiness, or exhaustion. We may shut down emotionally, narrow the scope of our lives, hide ourselves from others, make unhealthy choices and behave in ways that leave us feeling depleted, depressed or anxious.
Whatever brings you to my site, I invite you to look at the contents to learn more about my background and work and how I may help you. I believe psychotherapy is an important way to find meaning in our lives and to become true and authentic to ourselves.
I welcome your telephone call or e-mail to explore the possibility of working together.
